Below are some basic useful resources for GSRs, DCMs, and others interested in general service and A.A. as a whole.
Some basic FAQs below.
An A.A. member elected by their group to voice the Group’s opinion in discussions at the Sub-District, District, and Area Levels. GSRs, in turn, elect their DCMs, DCMCs, the Delegate, and other Area Officers at the appropriate service levels.
More information can be found in the G.S.R. Your group’s link to A.A. as a whole pamphlet.
In General Service, most commitments have two-year terms. These are called “panels” and the number of the panel corresponds with the number of the General Service Conference that occurred during the first year. For example, in Panel 65 we will discuss the items for the 65th and 66th General Service Conference. In Panel 67 we will discuss the Agenda Topics for the 67th and 68th General Service Conference. Our Area always has odd-numbered panels; about half the Areas are odd-numbered panels and about half are even-numbered panels.
Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.
CNCA stands for California Northern Coastal Area, which is Area 06 of Alcoholics Anonymous and is located along the coast of northern California. You can find our Area Map here.
The General Service Office of A.A. (GSO) and the Grapevine are located at 475 Riverside Drive in New York City. G.S.O. serves all A.A. groups in the United States and Canada, and also offers services to A.A. overseas, especially in countries where there is no service structure. The GSO quarterly news is called “Box 459” and it is important to review this and share the information with your group. While many other countries have their own G.S.O.s, the U.S./Canada General Service Office, the earliest to be established, is generally regarded as the “senior” office. It serves as a clearinghouse and exchange point for the wealth of A.A. experience accumulated over the years, coordinates a wide array of activities and services, and oversees the publication, all translations of, and distribution of A.A. Conference-approved literature and service materials.
