Area 06 - CNCA Map

California Northern Coastal Area 06 is one of six A.A. General Service Areas in California, and geographically encompasses 21,427 square miles of coastal counties from the Oregon border in the north, down to San Luis Obispo County in the south.

CNCA serves more than 65,000 AA members in 23 districts. Each district’s District Committee Member Chairperson (DCMC) and the District Committee Members (DCMs) of our 153 sub-districts serve over 2,000 registered groups via their General Service Representatives (GSRs). The Districts and the Area communicate through liaisons with the 23 Central Offices/Intergroups within CNCA boundaries, as well as with the autonomous Northern California Hospitals and Institutions Committee.

There are many activities in our Area that help to facilitate communication. Each district in CNCA Area 06 is visited by one of our eight Area officers each month. Our Districts hold monthly District Business Meetings and Sub-District Meetings. Communication throughout the area is enhanced by four Assemblies per year (each hosted by one or more districts) and monthly Area Committee Meetings (ACM). Our monthly newsletters, the CNCA Comments (English) and the Comentarios CNCA (Spanish) are also essential for our communication. Approximately 1200 copies (total) of these two CNCA newsletters are mailed each month to members of CNCA, including GSRs and their alternates.

The Area Committee Meeting is held on the 4th Saturday of each Month (except in December when it is held on the 3rd Saturday). This is where our DCMs and the DCMC participate in routine Area Business. Sharing Session meetings are at 10:00 am prior to each monthly Area Committee Meeting. There are three Standing Committees (Finance, Interpretation and Translation, Web) and three Sub-Committees of CNCA (Archives, Bridging the Gap, Public Information/Cooperation with the Professional Community). The Standing Committees and Sub-Committees meet at 11:00 am prior to the ACM.

CNCA participates in the process of carrying the group voice to our Delegate and the General Service Conference.

In District 08, Contra Costa County, we have 10 Sub-Districts that cover geographical areas. It is expected that each Sub-District will hold meetings for their GSRs. This is a place where we learn more about our District, our Area, and the rest of our General Service structure. At these meetings we become informed about the items that are being discussed at the District, Area Committee Meeting, and Area Assemblies so that we are prepared to participate. This is generally where we take a Sub-District conscience on items to be voted on at the District and Area. It is also a place where we can bring up items that we would like the District and/or Area to discuss. Each Sub-District is headed by a District Committee Member (DCM). DCMs help us serve as GSRs and help educate us on procedures regarding the General Service structure.
